Best practices for user groups and roles
For most BIMcloud SaaS setups, it is recommended to assign users to the appropriate predefined user group(s), rather than creating new ones. In the default BIMcloud SaaS, the predefined user groups have been given access, with predefined roles, to the appropriate content (e.g. Projects root folder). Therefore, after a user is added to a relevant group, they can begin working with the correct permissions.
See Default user groups on BIMcloud SaaS
Recommendation about default roles
Don't modify or delete the predefined roles. Removing roles can result in users losing access to BIMcloud, and there is no undo for these changes. If a role is deleted by mistake, it must be recreated manually.
Recommended groups for most users
For typical project users, add them to the following default groups:
-
Archicad - Lead Architect – full access for day-to-day work in Archicad
-
View - Projects – allows users to see and join projects on BIMcloud.
-
Management - Project Managers – allows users to upload, manage, and administer Teamwork projects as needed
This combination usually covers the needs of designers and project team members without additional configuration.
For more information, see: Default user groups on BIMcloud SaaS
Recommended groups for BIMcloud administrators
For BIM Managers or IT administrators who must manage BIMcloud itself: add them to the following default groups:
-
Management - Service Administrator – full control over BIMcloud Manager configuration
-
View - Everything – visibility of all projects and resources
-
Administrators can also be in the same three groups as regular users: Archicad - Lead Architect, View - Projects, and Management - Project Managers
When to create a custom permission system
If the default configuration does not support a specific workflow or responsibility pattern, you can create a new permission system based on a custom role and group. See the workflow: Create a new permission system
