Typical Workflow

The typical workflow of modeling and documenting electrical systems in MEP Designer consist of the following steps:

  1. Set up Electrical Project Settings.
  2. Place one or more Electrical Panels with the Electrical Panel tool.
  3. In the Electrical Panel settings dialog, specify the Panel’s Name, ID Prefix, and ID Style.
  4. In the same dialog, create the electrical circuits running from the Electrical Panel and specify their ID, Name, Phases, Wiring Type, and Voltage.
  5. Using the Electrical Device tool, place electrical elements to form circuits.
  6. Use specialized objects to place outlets, light switches, and electrical loads (e.g. ceiling lights) on the circuit.
  7. For each of these, specify their Circuit, their Load Classification, Apparent power (consumption), and additional object-specific settings.
  8. Define whether and how to visualize electrical circuits on the floor plan: use MEP Options (Electrical Panel) in the Model View Options dialog.
  9. Label the electrical panels and devices, and schedule the electrical panels, circuits, and devices.
