Setting permissions on BIMcloud Software as a Service

How to provide users with access to BIMcloud content

How do permissions work on BIMcloud Software as a Service?

BIMcloud Software as a Service comes with default User Groups, with predefined roles and permissions. It is recommended that you assign users to these default User Groups. These groups, in turn, are connected to roles and associated permission sets.

Company administrator with full access

Your BIMcloud comes with one company administrator account, which you specified during the purchase process.

The company administrator has full rights to everything: create users, manage projects, and assign permissions, plus all Teamwork permissions.

Which are the default user groups?

On the Users and groups page, you can find the default user groups:
  • The “Archicad” groups provide permissions for Archicad: for example, the ability to use tools and create or manage views.

  • The “Management” groups provide permissions for the BIMcloud, to manage projects, libraries and users.

  • The “View” groups are view-only permissions for the BIMcloud Manager’s web interface and its content.

Note: A user must have View permissions to see and manage the content items - not only on the BIMcloud, but also in Archicad.

Archicad – Draftsman

A Draftsman can be a new hire or trainee who is about to learn the program and your workflow. They are restricted to use only the Archicad tools (like the Wall and Stair tools), and not allowed to create or modify elements such as Favorites or Views.

Archicad – Architect

Architect permissions can be useful for your colleagues who are familiar with Archicad, yet should not be able to modify your template’s settings. These users can use all Archicad tools, except for functions related to the Structural Analytical Model (tools, SAF format saving and translators, and Generation Rules) and MEP Modeler tools and preferences. They can create new Attributes and Publisher Sets, but cannot modify or delete them.

Archicad – Structural Engineer

Similar to the Architect group, but members can also use tools and functions associated with creating and exporting the Structural Analytical Model.

Archicad – MEP Engineer

Similar to the Architect group, but members can also use MEP tool elements, can delete and modify MEP Systems, and can modify MEP Preferences. They cannot use Grid tool elements.

Archicad – Lead Architect

Lead Architects can create and modify any kind of element and manage all aspects of projects, with the exception of MEP tools and preferences, and functions related to the Structural Analytical Model. Normally, they are advanced users of Archicad and responsible for documentation processes.

Archicad – Lead Structural Engineer

Similar to the Lead Architect group, but members can also use all tools and functions associated with MEP Modeler and with the Structural Analytical Model.

Archicad – Lead MEP Engineer

Similar to the Lead Architect group, but members can also use all tools and functions associated with MEP Modeler and with the Structural Analytical Model.

Management – Project Managers

Compared to Architects and Engineers, Project Managers have extra permissions on project management: they can modify access to projects for other users and modify content on the Manager web interface. Users in this group cannot work in Archicad unless they are also a member of one of the Archicad groups listed above.

Management – Service Administrators

Service Administrators have full access and all permissions in both Archicad and on the BIMcloud Manager web interface. The first user – chosen by you – will be a Service Administrator by default.

Note: Please do not remove the initial GSID member from the Service Administrator group!

Users in this group can access only Teamwork Projects and Libraries on the BIMcloud, but are not allowed to modify content. Tags are available.
