Assign and Edit Property Values in Element Settings
An element’s properties are shown in the Categories and Properties panel of Element Settings (or the Info Box).
Select Element Classification
The properties listed in Element Settings depend on the Element Classification, which is set at the top of the list:
Each ARCHICAD 3D element type has a default classification. Change the Element Classification only if the element created by this tool is not serving its default function (e.g. if you are using a Slab to model a ceiling).
See Element Classification for more information.
An element classified as a Window has different properties than one classified as a Wall:
Thus, different ARCHICAD elements (e.g. a Slab and a Curtain Wall) will have the same list of properties if they both have the same Element Classification (e.g. Ceiling).
In the Categories and Properties panel, Properties are shown in groups:
•The ID and Categories and Renovation groups are described here:
See ID and Categories and Renovation Controls.
•To create and edit ARCHICAD Properties and organize them into groups, use Property Manager. See Property Manager.
Note: To define the set of properties available for each Element Classification, use Property Manager. See Property Manager.
Edit Property Value
In the Categories and Properties panel of Element Settings (or the Info Box), click on any property in the list to edit or assign a property value for this element.
Depending on the property’s data format, you can choose from a list, enter text, or simply type in a value.
For information about data formats, see Property Data Type.
To help you use the right data format, some properties have a description (e.g. thermal unit), visible by hovering over the item.
Note: The Description is defined in Property Manager. See Property Description.
Link Property to Default Value
For each property, the link icon indicates that its value is linked to the default for this property.
If you overwrite a value in Element Settings, its link to the default is broken.
Property Linked to Default
Property Unlinked from Default
To re-link and restore the default value, click the link icon.
Note: Defaults are defined in Property Manager. If you edit a property’s default value in Property Manager, all linked property values are updated accordingly at the element level. See Preview/Default Value.
For any particular property, you can use Find and Select to find all elements to which the property’s default value has been assigned (or, alternatively, a custom value assigned).
