Export and import roles

Transfer roles to a different BIMcloud, or as a backup

Export roles

  1. Select the role(s) you wish to export.
    Note: To multi-select items in the Navigator, activate the checkboxes by clicking the checkmark at the top of the page.

  2. Click Export.



Data for all the roles you are exporting will be placed into a single file and downloaded into your browser’s default download folder, with extension.bimroles.

Import roles

First, export the roles from the other BIMcloud.

Then follow these steps to import the roles file to the current BIMcloud.



  1. Select the Role root.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Click Import from the available functions

    • Click the Plus button on the Role root, then Import

  3. Browse for the file which contains the roles to import (with extension .bimroles), then click Open.

The role file is imported to the BIMcloud Manager.

If you import a role with the same name as an existing BIMcloud role: the existing role remains unchanged, and the imported role is added with a new (suffixed) name.
