GRAPHISOFT BIMx

GRAPHISOFT BIMx lets you create an interactive walk-through model out of your ArchiCAD project. The functions needed to create and share a BIMx model, and to view it on your computer, are included in ArchiCAD.

In addition, you can transfer the resulting BIMx model to mobile devices:

Clients using the free BIMx app can experience a professional, 3D project presentation and benefit from a real-time exploration of the architectural design, without having to install any architectural software.

The more sophisticated BIMx Docs application enables clients or contractors to view and navigate in the full project documentation - 2D as well as 3D.

BIMx 3D Model Format

From ArchiCAD’s 3D window, save your 3D model in BIMx Model (.bimx) format.

You can view the BIMx 3D Model on your computer, using the desktop BIMx application included in ArchiCAD 18.

Clients can view the model using the free BIMx Desktop Viewer application, downloadable from http://www.graphisoft.com/downloads/bimx/bimx_desktop.html

You can share the BIMx 3D Model to the Cloud at bimx.graphisoft.com

You can open and explore the BIMx 3D Model on iPad or other mobile device, using either of the BIMx mobile apps.

BIMx Hyper-Model Format

Create a BIMx Hyper-model out of a Publisher Set, using either ArchiCAD’s Publisher or the wizard launched from File > Publish BIMx Hyper-model.

Unlike the BIMx 3D Model format, the BIMx Hyper-model can contain the full documentation of your ArchiCAD project: the 3D model, plus views, layouts and even camera paths. (You can filter the 3D content as well as narrow the set of published layouts.)

You can save the resulting file (.bimx format), view its 3D content in the BIMx Desktop Viewer application, or transfer it to a mobile device

You can publish the Hyper-model to the Cloud at bimx.graphisoft.com

The BIMx Hyper-model file is compatible:

BIMx Desktop Viewer application or the free BIMx mobile app, you can view and navigate in the Hyper-model’s 3D views

The more sophisticated BIMx Docs mobile app, you can view the project’s full 2D/3D documentation set, within a logical and interconnected structure, only on mobile devices

Both the BIMx 3D Model (saved from the ArchiCAD file) and the Hyper-model (created from a Publisher Set) use the .bimx format.

For more information on BIMx Hyper-model features, see bimx.graphisoft.com.

Each of these topics is detailed below:

Save ArchiCAD Model as BIMx 3D Model

Share BIMx 3D Model

Open BIMx 3D Model in Desktop Application

Save or Upload BIMx Hyper-Model

BIMx Technical Requirements

Hardware/software requirements for GRAPHISOFT BIMx are the same as for ArchiCAD 18.

BIMx for ArchiCAD 18 is available for both MacOS and Windows in 64-bit versions only.

For more information, see http://www.graphisoft.com/support/system_requirements/.

The BIMx file format for ArchiCAD 18 has changed since ArchiCAD 17.

A BIMx project created for ArchiCAD 18 cannot be read by any previous version of BIMx

The BIMx Hyper-model file, created in ArchiCAD 18, is compatible with BIMx applications for iPad and other mobile devices, but cannot be viewed using the desktop BIMx application

When you explore the BIMx model, performance may vary depending on the size of your model and the memory capacity of your video graphics card. If you plan to work with large models, make sure you are using a high-capacity video card.

You can find a list of recommended video cards at: helpcenter.graphisoft.com/video-cards.

If your BIMx model is to be viewed on a mobile device, model size and device compatibility requirements apply.

For more information, consult BIMx Optimization.
