Suggested workflows and example prompts

Some ideas for effective use of MCP with the Archicad model:

1. Smart Find and Replace

Replaces one value with another across a defined scope.

Use this workflow to update multiple properties or attributes in one batch for a selected element set. It is intended for requests like “everywhere this is used, change it to that”, for example replacing Surface A with Surface B on all elements or Building Material X with Y in the whole model. Instead of today’s manual multi-step process with separate Find & Select actions per element type and manual checking, it provides a single-step replace workflow.

  • Example prompts (assuming that your project contains the relevant data):
    • Change the property Fire Resistance Rating from 20 minutes to 30 min for all exterior walls
    • Set the renovation status from Existing to To Be Demolished for all curtain walls
    • Change the slab thickness from 200 mm to 250 mm for all concrete slabs
    • Override the edge surface of all slabs from 60 to 30
    • Set the Home Story from 1 to 0 for all morphs

2. Unify properties/attributes

Makes a current selection or defined element set consistent by applying the same property or attribute value where needed. It reads the chosen property or attribute across the elements, analyzes the value distribution, and supports two modes:

  • Explicit mode, where the user provides the target value and can see what will change and how many elements are affected
  • Discovery mode, where MCP suggests the dominant value, flags anomalies, and asks for clarification if the target is unclear or there are multiple plausible candidates. After user confirmation, MCP applies the update as a single undoable batch.

Example prompts (assuming that your project contains the relevant data):

    • Standardize the thickness across all selected slabs to 20cm.
    • Change the building material of all selected elements to 35
    • Unify the core skin surface of my selected walls
    • Unify the pens of my selected fills

3. Command execution

Maps a natural-language request to a specific Archicad menu command. After confirmation (when needed), it runs the command through MCP. This workflow is intended for requests such as opening dialogs, switching tools, navigating views, managing project settings, or executing menu actions - so you do not have to manually search through Archicad menus.

The workflow first resolves the user’s prompt against the available Archicad command list, including the exact menu label and category. If the request is ambiguous, selection-dependent, destructive, or project-wide, the AI Assistant asks a clarifying question or requests confirmation before executing.

  • Example prompts:
    • Open the Hotlink Module Manager

    • Open the GDL debugger

    • Break this group of walls apart into separate pieces, expected command "Explode into Current View”

    • Insert the library part's own GUID into the script, expected command "Insert Own GUID”
